    Plaquenil for chronic pain

Since I have not taken it my chest feels so much better which is odd because chest pain is not listed as a side effect. Also I noticed that the Plaquenil I think was making me feel different but not in a good way.

Dr gave me plaquenil to sample Icd10 plaquenil therapy

Talk to your doctor about this, but my guess is that the Plaquenil is not doing anything to cause the pain, but rather that it is not doing enough to prevent it. It sounds like your RA has probably gotten a bit out of control, relative, to your current treatment, and Plaquenil is not a particularly potent drug when it comes to managing joint pain. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria. Plaquenil is prescribed as a disease-modifier, in other words, to decrease pain, decrease swelling, and prevent joint damage and disability. It is not known how Plaquenil works but researchers believe that Plaquenil interferes with communication between cells within the immune system. Ultimately, it is thought to block proinflammatory.

Did you take yourself off Plaquenil, or did your doctor tell you to go off it? Plus I will be honest the whole eye site thing even though rare has always freaked me out. I went off of it to see if I can manage not being on it as my lupus isnt as severe as other cases but already I am feeling very fatigued and my legs feel heavy if that makes sense. I can discuss alternatives with my DR at my next appt but my DR feels as though the plaq is the best bet for my level of illness. If so are you just dealing with Lupus symptoms or did you take another med? I'm on Plaquenil, and after the first week's GI upset, I have had no problems with it.

  7. I checked out 'side effects of Plaquenil' on the Internet before contacting my Rheumy. On stopping the medication for 24 hours I had an improvement, but on day 2 of re-taking Plaquenil, the lower back pain which seems to be in my spine has come back. I can hardly move because of it. I'm of to phone my Rheumy straight away. Thanks for your post.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic, inflammatory, multisystem, autoimmune disorder. It is a disabling and painful condition which can lead to substantial loss of mobility due to pain and joint destruction. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is a drug that is classified as an anti-malarial drug. Plaquenil is prescribed for the treatment or prevention of malaria. It is also prescribed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and the side effects of lupus such as hair loss, joint pain, and more. Plaquenil is used to treat other types of infections too. For example, it may be combined with an antibiotic to treat chronic Q-fever, which humans usually catch from farm animals or raw milk.
