    Joint pain after stopping plaquenil

So far I have no more energy than when I first started and has developed neuropathy which I have just found out from Web MD that this neuropathy is one of the side effects of this med! Saying that by stopping this it would take another 6 months to build up the benefit. There are other meds that can help with what you are experiencing, and if your doctor didn't address that then I would seek out a second opinion... Please don't stop your plaquenil until you are sure it is the right thing to do and in your best interest.

I love plaquenil. I would marry it if it was legal to do so. Took me 'bout nine months or so before I noticed it doing anything. Mostly I find it helps for fatigue rather than joint pain for me anywho. This time round I've been on it for almost 2 years and wouldn't give it up. Summary. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is a drug that is classified as an anti-malarial drug. Plaquenil is prescribed for the treatment or prevention of malaria. It is also prescribed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and the side effects of lupus such as hair loss, joint pain, and more. I noticed plaquenil helping with my fatigue more so than anything else. It does help my joint pain but I need extra help from other meds too It can take up to 6 months to get in your system and fully work, each person is different. I pray it doesn't take that long for you to get some relief.

Plaquenil is a 6-weeker as far as the benefits are concerned, but it would be more dangerous to stop if you spend a lot of time outside and if this were the summer. Or maybe another doctor if you're not comfortable w/your current one.

  5. Do you still have joint and muscle pain on plaquenil? I've been on plaquenil for 6 months now and I still have significant joint pain! I can't say that the drug has helped at all, but it is difficult to compare todays pain with that of 6 months ago.

Hi, I've been on Plaquenil since Thanksgiving along with sulindac. I was just today wondering if I will ever have a pain free/stiffness free day. Believe it is so much better than it was back in December, but even today, after lunch at the mall, I was done. That was all I could do, and it wasn't that much. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is considered a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD. It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria. Plaquenil is prescribed as a disease-modifier, in other words, to decrease pain, decrease swelling, and prevent joint damage and disability. It is not known how Plaquenil works but researchers believe that Plaquenil interferes with communication between cells within the immune system. Ultimately, it is thought to block proinflammatory pathways.
